Who should evaluate life?

About a month ago, I posted a question on the dangers of a living will with a link to a post on the subject by Al Mohler. Mohler has posted again on the subject of euthanasia.

There are several possible answers -

  1. The individuals themselves (hence “living wills”)
  2. Doctors or scientists
  3. Society as represented by government
  4. Family members most affected by the circumstances of the person
  5. God’s will as revealed by Him in His Word

There are problems with all five: Not everyone knows what is best for themselves. Doctors/scientist are by no means infallible and can be prejudiced by certain factors. Society/government and family members all prey to the same problems as doctors/scientists. Not everyone agrees as to what God’s Word reveals (although, certainly as God, whatever His will is, would be correct. The problem lies with understanding His will and making sure we don’t interpret His will to agree with our line of thinking.)

Should you have a living will?

We have yet to ask questions concerning this subject but it is certainly one that you will want to think about and should express yourself on. Can a living-will lead to state condoned euthanasia? See also this post from Dr. Al Mohler.
